A piano’s size and weight matter at every step of the route. We assess each flight of stairs, landing, turn, doorway, and tight fit at both addresses before confirming the move.
MOVE OVERVIEW
Every flight, landing, and turn matters
Two moves with the same number of flights can involve very different work. A long, straight staircase offers different clearance from a narrow staircase with a small landing and a sharp turn. We consider the piano’s dimensions and weight alongside the space needed for the moving equipment and crew—not just whether the instrument fits through a doorway.
ACCESS & PREPARATION
What we review before your move.
Stair width and overhead clearance
Measure the narrowest clear width, including handrails or other fixed obstructions. Show low ceilings, beams, sloping walls, and the headroom at the top and bottom of the stairs.
Landings and changes of direction
Send the width and depth of each landing if available. Show whether the route continues straight, makes a quarter turn, or turns back on itself. We need to see the space before and after the turn.
Doorways, corners, and tight fits
Show narrow openings, door frames, thresholds, hallway corners, and any door immediately beside a staircase. The approach and exit space matter as much as the opening itself.
Piano size, weight, and working space
Share the make, model, height of an upright, or length of a grand if known. A photo helps identify the instrument, but does not establish its exact weight. We assess the room needed for the piano, protection, equipment, and crew together.
The complete route at both addresses
Include the path from the piano to the vehicle and from the vehicle to its final position. Mention uneven outdoor surfaces, long carries, building restrictions, and anything that has changed since the photos were taken.

Share the make, model, and dimensions if known. We review the instrument and the entire route together before agreeing on handling, timing, and price.
Is the number of flights enough for a quote?+
It is an important starting point, but not the full picture. Stair width, landing dimensions, turns, headroom, piano size, and access at both ends affect the work, crew requirements, timing, and quote.
Which photos should I send?+
Send a full view of the piano, each flight from the top and bottom, every landing and turn, narrow doorways, and the final room. Take wide views so we can understand how the spaces connect. Measurements help where clearance is tight.
What if I do not know the piano’s weight or measurements?+
Send the make and model if visible, plus a full photo. Choose Not sure in the quote form if needed. We will tell you which additional details are required; you do not need to lift or reposition the piano to measure it.
Does a piano fitting through the door mean the move is possible?+
Not necessarily. It must also negotiate the approach, turns, stairs, and final position with enough working space. We confirm feasibility after reviewing the complete route; a photo of one opening cannot establish that on its own.
Should I remove a handrail or start moving the piano?+
Please leave the piano and fixed building features in place until the route has been reviewed. Discuss any proposed changes with us and the building owner before making them.
